Reprogramming our response to stress

Stress can have an immediate impact on our body and its effects are cumulative. It's imperative that we learn how to manage our bodies response to stress, especially when it becomes maladaptive stress, the type of stress that becomes ingrained as habits and patterns that are detrimental to our health & wellbeing. Energy Medicine helps us to reprogram the way our body responds to stress with techniques that interrupt the stress response when it's happening. 


Do you get caught in the Emergency Stress Loop?

When we are stressed by life circumstances a primitive part of our brain is triggered into an emergency fight, flight, flee response condition and the blood in our forebrain leaves our head to go directly into our arms and legs to run or fight off the offender, while simultaneously stress chemicals pour into our bloodstream and primitive stress responses fill us, as we try to adapt to the complex surroundings that caused the stress with the most primitive part of our brain and our cognitive abilities annihilated.

Fight Flight or FREEZE?

Prolonged exposure to stress or trauma can cause emotional overwhelm and instead of Fighting or Fleeing from the stressor, we may enter into a FREEZE STATE. This is when your Vagus Nerve slows or Shut Down to protect itself. This is not your fault. its an autonomic physiological response to enduring prolonged stress and your body’s way of trying to protect you from processing more trauma. When your stuck in this freeze state your Vagus Nerve Shuts down and eventually physical pain sets in.

When you experience pain from your neck all the way down to your hips, especially if the pain has gone on for more than 3 months and have experienced Extreme Stress Overload or Trauma your body, is a clear indication your body has been overloaded.

Maladaptive Stress & Trauma may be a Root Cause for full body pain especially the kind of pain that doctors can’t figure out why your in such pain. The pain is difficult to describe, you may feel numbness or tingling, or even burning sensations. In addition to physical pain, you may begin to dissociate from your body, feel disconnected and immobile when your in this freeze state. You may experience difficulty breathing deeply into your lungs.

You may become aware that your posture has become curled into a ball, forward leaning.

Our Vagus Nerve starts at the base of the neck at the Occipital Ridge where the brainstem connects to the central nervous system of the spine, it runs all the way down the spine innervating all the organ systems as it goes down to the pelvic floor of the hips.
